Handmade pots are as timeless as the human community. But just as people have lost touch with the source of their food in this fast-paced, anonymous world, so are they losing touch with the value and beauty of everyday objects, made by hand, that sustain them. Fourteen outstanding Minnesota potters, including Carl Erickson, Steve Hemingway and Ernest Miller, will show their wares and explore the universal connections created when their work passes from the maker to the user in a gesture of shared purpose and meaning. The annual Rustic Road 13 Pottery Event and Sale, founded by potter, Beth Ryan and held at her historic St. Croix County homestead, has been steadily growing in each of its seven years. The event is described as an “inspiring and informative experience” by both returning and first-time visitors. From the art-filled barn to poetry readings in the gardens, music in the air, and potter’s wheel and raku firing demonstrations throughout the weekend, visitors are able to explore this ancient craft through the eyes and hands of contemporary artists. People of all ages are invited to come for a few hours or the whole day. Enjoy the drive and the autumn colors emerging across the wooded, hilly terrain. Then take this very special opportunity to reconnect to the simple pleasures of everyday living, and each other, through the potter’s art. 10% of all sales will be donated to Second Harvest Heartland, local partner in the nation’s Food Bank Network.
